Frequently Asked Questions

  1. I'm trying to install XMF Alerter. During the first part of the install it's looking for many .jar files and can't create them... Should I install Java SE or SDK Runtime? or ignore this?
    • If you have installed a previous version of XMF Alerter it is probably already running which causes the conflict with an ongoing install. Look in the Services tab of Task Manager. If XMFAlerter Service is running, please stop that service, and re-try the install.

  2. Do the services need to be manually added to a monitoring list or will the program pick them up automatically?
    • The software queries for a list of available services to allow for easy test set-up, but they are not automatically added since most users often like to configure black-out periods for their tests (to handle database backups, server reboots, etc).

  3. What versions of ESRI software is supported?
    • We support ArcGIS Server, version 9.1 and 9.2, ArcIMS version 9.1 and 9.2, including services built with ArcMap server and ArcSDE version 9.1 and 9.2.

  4. What operating systems are supported?
    • Currently, our monitoring system is built on Windows (XP, 2003 Server and 2000 Server). Send us a quick email to indicate your interest in Unix/Linux.

  5. For Email Settings do I have to provide a username and password?
    • No, only if your email server requires it for authentication.

  6. Does the geoxmf agent have to be installed on another server?
    • No, only if you want to monitor services on another machine.

  7. Do I have to fill out all 10 contacts when configuring an alert
    • No, only as many contacts (up to 10) as you would like.
